Getting person number in Sweden:
After arrival in Sweden, one has to get person number from Skatteverkets office. This person number is necessary for opening a bank account, for medical treatment in hospital and for applying job in Sweden.
There are two types of person number they issue:
1) Permanent person number
2) Temporary person number
Permanent person number: is issued only if you have more then or equal to one year VISA issued by Migrationsverket office.
Temporary person number: On the other hand if you have less then one year VISA, then they will issue you temporary person number
Usually it takes 1 week to get person number after applying in Skatteverket office.

Accommodation Information
Housing is a crucial issue for most exchange students. Following is a description of the options for accommodation. You can book your accommodation through student union of Halmstad University in advance or by applying through Housing authority offices (http://www.hfab.se/ or www.studenlya.nu ), where you will find list of vacant apartments, rooms and huts. But this option you can only try when you are here. Everything is mentioned on the official website, rent, and location with map and contact person. Website is updated daily with new available accommodations.
Make sure to let the Student Union know well in advance, what kind of accommodation you want since there are not a great many of each alternative. In order to register with the Student Union, follow the link for Free Movers at www.karen.hh.se.
Cost Ranges for different Accommodations
We have the following options available for living in Halmstad:
1. If you want a Single Room with kitchen and bath without furniture then it will cost almost 2600 SEK.
2. Double room with kitchen and bath costs 3000SEK to 4000 SEK and it is also unfurnished.
3. We have furnished university hostel, single room with shared kitchen and bath cost range is 2500SEK to 3000SEK.

How to open an account in Bank:
It’s very simple to open an account in Sweden, for this you need person number, Passport and your admission letter from university.
There are quite a few banks located in City Center of Halmstad like Nordea Bank, SEB Bank and SWED Bank.

You can buy Halal food from shops, but there are very few Shops where Halal Food is available e.g.

Halal meat/chicken and all groceries can be purchased from NETTO and MAXI. All of these shops are almost 100-500 meters from the Halmstad University.

Second hand Markets
In Halmstad there are some second hand markets like Amnesty, which is open on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can purchase second hand things from here. Here is the directions map of Amnesty from the university.

Open Air markets
There are few more shops are also available in city center where one can buy cheap thing like cloths, fruits, vegetable etc.
Newspapers
Foreign newspapers and magazines can be bought in Halmstad at the Press Stop, Centrum (city center) and are also available at the public library in Halmstad .
HAIRCUT
Get one before you come. Haircuts are expensive, it would cost you about 150-300 SEK or so. Although there are few barber shops, one in university premises and others are located in Centrum. If you are from a country with 220V, you can bring your own clippers and Shaving machine.
