Cheating is not common, but it does happen. And it is a very serious matter. That is why we want to inform you on what happens when someone cheats at Halmstad University. What is considered cheating?
There are different rules to prevent misunderstandings in situations when students can be suspected of cheating, and it is important that you comply with them. When writing a seated exam you are not really allowed to bring anything to your seat; your bag and coat is left elsewhere. On your desk there may only be your writing material (pens and pencils), packed lunch and your student identity card. You are not allowed to bring your own note pad or mobile phone. Naturally, you are not allowed to bring any notes whatsoever or talk to anyone but the invigilators. Examination aids are, in some cases, allowed, for instance a calculator or a textbook. The teacher will inform you well in advance what is allowed, and it will be clearly stated on the exam. It is important that you follow the rules of what may be programmed on your calculator. Ask your teacher in advance if you do not know. No texts may be added to the books. That means that you are allowed to highlight text in your own book but not make any notes in it. The invigilators will flip through the books to make sure that no one cheats.
The Disciplinary Board can choose to warn or to suspend the student for a maximum of six months. The suspension starts immediately from the day the board takes the decision and it means that the student is not allowed to visit the University’s premises or take any exams. |
